Ty Peterson, a 2004 graduate of Pagosa Springs High School, recently completed his training with the U.S. Army Engineering School in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., as a combat engineer. Specialist Tyson Peterson received a special award where he was selected from over 200 peer soldiers and top commanding officers, the Army Engineer Association “Sapper Spirit” Award. This award is presented to the Engineer Soldier who demonstrated the ability to significantly motivate others, displayed consistent enthusiasm towards accomplishment of the mission and performed all assigned tasks to high standards throughout the training cycle (16 weeks). Ty will be stationed in El Paso, Texas, at Fort Bliss to further his career. His brother, Trevor Peterson, is an Iraqi war veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 2002-2005 in the 101st Airborne Infantry Division.
