Retired Col. Roland Seylar and Ellen Seylar celebrated their golden anniversary on Sept. 18. The Seylars have divided their time between Albuquerque and Pagosa Springs since 1989.
Roland, a West Point graduate (1961), and Ellen met on a blind date in Germany in 1964. They married at Ft. Belvoir, where Roland was stationed after returning from Germany. Ellen had come to the U.S. in April 1961on her own and worked in Washington, D.C. In 1963, she and a girlfriend took a trip to Germany and went to visit a lieutenant that her girlfriend knew. Roland was Ellen’s blind date.
